Trump: North Korea's Suspension Of Nuclear Tests Shows 'Progress'

A young woman died earlier this week in a parasailing accident off of Pompano Beach.

Just like the temperature of a fever stricken patient - Medicare is rising as the hottest campaign issue in Florida ever since Paul Ryan was named as Mitt Romney’s running mate.

The Wisconsin congressman proposed a budget that makes major changes in Medicare for future generations – something Democrats are eagerly pointing out.

In response, Republicans are adding fuel to the Medicare debate.

Florida’s GOP candidate for U.S. Senate - Connie Mack the fourth – says the Democrats are offering no Medicare plan only criticism of Republican reforms.

As of Wednesday, young undocumented immigrants in Southwest Florida who want to stay here legally can apply for a temporary reprieve from deportation. 

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services began accepting applications Wednesday under the new deferred action policy. 

There are more than 140,000 DREAM Act students in the state of Florida that can apply for deferred action.

And close to 50 thousand in Miami-Dade county.

GOP Convention Marchers Promote "Peaceful" Event

A massive protest bringing together thousands of people from around the country is planned for the streets of downtown Tampa during the first day of the Republican National Convention. A group of organizers met today, and Steve Newborn reports they promise the event will be peaceful.

The National Harmful Algal Bloom Committee has elected Barbara Kirkpatrick, a senior scientist at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, as co-chair.

Kirkpatrick, a leading researcher on the effects of red tide on the human respiratory system, will chair the committee alongside Raphael Kudela, a professor of ocean sciences at UC Santa Cruz. 

The Nature Conservancy

After a record 17-foot Burmese python carrying 87 eggs was caught in Everglades National Park Monday the Nature Conservancy reminds residents and visitors it has a 24-hour response team in ten counties including Collier, Hendry and Glades.

If you see a sun-bathing python or any other invasive species, like Nile monitors, take a photo and call I-888-IveGot1 to report your sighting to the Python Patrol.

State elections officials will re-start an effort to check the voter rolls against lists of possible non-citizens before Election Day in November. 

Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Tuesday the state will have a new list that will be better than the last one. 

That's because the state is expecting to use the federal Homeland Security SAVE database.
