Among the new state laws that took effect in July is a measure that’s dissolved local government prohibitions on beekeeping and put apiary regulation entirely in the hands of state government. 

Some home-rule advocates oppose the law, but it’s being celebrated as a boon, especially for backyard beekeepers. 

Fort Myers resident Milissa Bell, known as “The Unruly Gardener,” is an organic gardening consultant for whom keeping honey bees is a natural fit.  Her name means “honey bee” in Greek, and after all, the bees chose her.

Activists in the Fair Food movement will protest in front of Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants across the country Wednesday. The Coalition of Immokalee (CIW) workers say the chain is not living up to a 2009 agreement. But, the nationwide purveyor of burritos and other Mexican-style food says that’s not the case.

FGCU Bringing Car Sharing to Campus

Car sharing is coming to Florida Gulf Coast University. The school has partnered with WeCar by Enterprise – the car rental agency -- to offer two cars to be rented by the hour or day beginning next month.
