The American Civil Liberties Union grabbed the world’s attention recently as its attorneys fought against the executive order that has become known as the “travel ban.” Since then, the organization has seen a dramatic increase in donations: $24 million poured in from 350,000 donors in one weekend

Thursday at 1 p.m., ACLU of Florida Executive Director Howard Simon joins the show to discuss a speaking engagement on Sanibel Island this week, as well as the organization’s priorities in southwest Florida and statewide.

We'll also feature portions of an interview with Collier County Sheriffs' Office Chief of Corrections Chris Roberts about the department's agreement with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's 287(g) program, which permits trained CCSO deputies to to enforce immigration laws and notify ICE of their arrest, potentially leading to their deportation.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
