Losing the ability to see can have devastating impacts on people, and a local non-profit group called Lighthouse of Southwest Floridaseeks to help those who have lost their vision adjust.
Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, Sandy Burke with the Florida Rehabilitation Council for the Blindjoins the show to discuss the extreme adjustments the newly sightless make as they deal with their disability.
Also joining the show is Brian Merin, who lost his sight as a young man and was despondent until finding Lighthouse.
And Amy Turner with Lighthouse joins the program to explain the group's outreach to the blind in Southwest Florida, and an upcoming “dining in the dark” fund raiser that has participants eat a meal blindfolded to get a momentary sense of what life is like for the blind.
