Governor Rick Scott wants to find better ways for the public to evacuate, in case of an emergency. He’s ordering an evaluation of the state’s roadways.

In a statement, Scott says many state and local agencies worked very closely together prior to Irma to pull off the largest evacuation in U.S. history.

But, despite those efforts, Florida highways became congested as people tried to evacuate.

So, Scott is now directing the Florida Department of Transportation to examine one of the major evacuation routes: from I-75/Florida Turnpike Interchange near the Villages to the Florida-Georgia border.

The deadline for the report is January of next year.
