The Florida Cabinet got a lesson on the state’s Sunshine laws Tuesday. The two-hour lesson follows allegations Cabinet members and staff skirted Sunshine rules during the ouster of a former agency head.

Cabinet members learned about the rules and procedures for public records requests in Florida. Pat Gleason, with the Office of the Attorney General explained some things can be exempt from public view.

“What the Florida legislature did was create these exemptions that were intended to ensure that law enforcement can do its job,” Gleason says.

After the meeting, Governor Rick Scott told reporters he felt the refresher helped to reinforce some of the rules cabinet members already knew.
