Florida Gulf Coast University’s College of Education and Florida’s Institute of Government will host the 4th Annual Children’s Mental Health Conference at FGCU Nov. 1. The aim of the conference is to provide information about mental health disorders in children and teens and improve connections between the community and access to mental health services. We’ll talk with the conference’s keynote speakers Gina Gallagher and Patricia Konjoian, also known as the “Shut Up Sisters.” Their personal experiences raising children with mental health issues led them to co-author the book, “Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid: A Survival Guide for Ordinary Parents of Special Children,” which provides a serious, humorous and irreverent take on raising children with mental health disorders in a world pre-occupied with perfection.
