Crunching the Numbers for the Brave's New North Port Spring Training Complex

The Atlanta Braves are bringing their spring training operation to North Port, with an estimated $80 million facility. North Port City commissioners last week approved a one-time payment for $4.7 million to support the project, though some commissioners say they remain skeptical of the project.

North Port City Commissioner Debbie McDowell joins Gulf Coast Live to talk about how the project came to North Port, the location of the complex in the West Villages Improvement District, and what kind of economic stimulus the complex is predicted to bring to the area.

Also joining the show is Bill Gunnin, president of the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, to discuss some of the broader issues related to bringing a new sports complex to southern Sarasota County.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
