Founded in 2003 by director by Gary Stroh, Cypress Lake High School's The A Cappella Group, or TAG, is heading to New York City to compete for thehigh school a cappella international title: the third trip for TAG to the international competition in the program's history, and the second year in a row the group will compete for the title.

Monday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, music teacher Gary Stroh explains the complex components of a successful a cappella song, how he's channeled the talents of local singers for more than a decade with TAG, and how the group's hard work has led to competitions, album recordings, and other awards and acclaim.

Also joining the program are three TAG singers, all seniors at Cypress Lake High School, including:

  • Bridget MacPherson, president of the vocal department
  • Kennedy Floethe, award-winning soloist at the quarterfinals and semi-finals  for “The Words”
  • Steven James, TAG's bass singer
Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
