SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, has long been the sad epitaph to explain the unexplainable: the inexplicable death of otherwise healthy babies. Improvements in health care and education have pushed SIDS out of the headlines in recent years, but researchers continue their efforts to better understand and ultimately end SIDS in our lifetime.
In this encore presentation of Gulf Coast Live, Dr. Betty McEntire, the Chief Executive Officer of the American SIDS Institute in Naples, explains how SIDS numbers are reaching all-time low thanks to a far-reaching education campaigns.
With 4,000 sleep-related infant deaths every year in the U.S., Dr. McEntire will also discuss research into the cause of these deaths, as well as the institute's promising new research that might soon find and eliminate the causes of SIDS cases.
