Mac Stipanovich is a longtime presence in Florida’s Republican politics. He’s been a lobbyist, advisor and campaign director. And he’s the latest in a line of Florida Republicans who do not want to see a Donald Trump Presidency. Stipanovich has penned an open letter encouraging others to reject Mr. Trump. Stipanovich says he understands why many Florida Republican officers and officials are now backing Donald Trump for president.

“Party officials, they have to do that or resign. And they have tried very hard to get to those offices, and they don’t want to resign. The office is more important than the principal. So they fall in line," he said.

But in an open letter, he urges Republicans to reject that and stand on principle.

Stipanovich writes Mr. Trump is a test for Republicans, and he says a few drops in votes would be enough to keep the likely GOP nominee out of the White House.

Many Florida Republican candidates and office holders say they will support Trump’s presidential bid. Though much of that support has come grudgingly. Many paths to the presidency, especially for Republicans, depend on winning Florida which has gone to both parties in recent decades.
