Florida lawmakers have voted on a planfor how they'll pay out the state's millions of dollars for damages sustained from BP's 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Earliest this month, Florida Senators voted unanimously for a bill guaranteeing $300 million for eight northwest counties. The payout is just part of the $2 billion settlement for Florida related to economic losses from the state. The AP reports payments began coming in last year, but remained in limbo until lawmakers voted on how the money would be doled out.

Monday at 1:30 p.m., WFSU reporter Kate Payne joins the program to discuss the long and winding road the settlement money has taken before finding its way to affected Floridians.
