Florida’s Abortion Law

American Life League

The U.S. Supreme Court’s Monday ruling striking down a Texas abortion law came just two days before a hearing in a Tallahassee federal district court on a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood challenging a new Florida abortion law (HB 1411) set to go into effect July 1.

The new law would disqualify Planned Parenthood clinics from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for non-abortion services.  It requires abortion clinic doctors to have admitting privileges or transfer agreements with nearby hospitals and changes Florida’s definition of the first trimester of pregnancy.  The measure additionally requires the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration to annually inspect at least 50 percent of abortion clinics’ patient records.  We’ll hear from supporters and opponents of the law, get an update on Planned Parenthood’s legal challenge, and we’ll explore whether the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling this week could impact abortion policy in Florida.
