FPL Hoping For $1.3B Rate Increase

Florida’s largest electric utility is asking for a $1.3 billion rate hike.   It’s making its pitch to state regulators.

Florida power and light is planning to phase in the rate changes over the next three years.  The first bump would raise a typical customer’s bill by about $8.50.  But atypical customers—namely a group of industrial consumers—are raising concerns.  Here’s their attorney JonMoyle.

“If they’re flying around on falcon jets and helicopters is that part of their ask here and are they seeking money from the rate payers for that or not?” Florida Industrial Power Users attorney Jon Moyle asked.

FPL is the third largest electric utility in the country and serves nearly five million Floridians.  The state’s public service commission has the next two weeks blocked out for testimony in the case.
