We’ll meet two men involved with a program called Gentle’menAgainst Domestic Violence that is sponsored by the Shelter for Abused Women and Children in Naples. The long-running program encourages boys and young men to replace stereotypical ideas of men as controlling, aggressive and gaining power through violence, with the truth that men can be gentle, compassionate and kind without risking their identities.
The group raises money for the shelter every year with a tailgate fundraiser. And, it sends advocates out into the community to talk with boys, and sometimes girls, about topics such as healthy relationships, bullying, building self-confidence, and even human trafficking.
We'll also talk with Yaro Garcia, an FGCU professor who teaches a criminal justice course called "Domestic Violence."
