Gov. Ron DeSantis

Newly sworn-in Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was in Southwest Florida this morning to make a major water policy announcement.  Gov. DeSantis has signed an executive order that, among other things, establishes a Blue-Green Algae Task Force and allocates $2.5 billion for Everglades restoration and water resource protection over the next four years.

DeSantis, along with Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez and First Lady Casey DeSantis were at Florida Gulf Coast University's Vester Marine and Environmental Research Field Station in Bonita Springs for the announcement.  DeSantis is also announcing the new water policy initiative today at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota and in Stuart.

We’ll debrief WGCU reporters who were on scene in Bonita for details.
