The second week of June marked the end of the road for more than a hundred bills passed by state lawmakers. Nearly all of them became law, but two were struck down.
Rep. Charles Van Zant (R-Keystone Heights) wants people who call themselves structural engineers to carry a specialized license—that is, unless they’re already working in the field. In his veto letter, Gov. Rick Scott says he’s opposed to this grandfathering provision in Van Zant’s bill.
Scott also denied a home medical equipment bill for similar reasons. Bill sponsor Rep. Dane Eagle (R-Cape Coral) says he’ll consider a different approach next session.
“We’re going to look at the statute as a whole and see what we can do more so that it isn’t a quote unquote carve-out,” Eagle says, “but more an overall repeal of this statutory requirement that requires doctors to go through this burdensome licensure and fee.”
Eagle’s bill would’ve allowed physicians to sell electrostimulation equipment without a license.
