“Heathers: The Musical” at the Florida Repertory Theatre” & Season Preview

May 24, 2018

Young actors with the Florida Repertory Theatre’s Conservatory Program are currently performing “Heathers: The Musical.”  The Off-Broadway rock musical is based on the 1988 cult-classic black comedy film, “Heathers,” featuring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty.  The show delivers a satirical take on issues relatable to young people including the often-malicious social hierarchies that can dominate high school life, bullying, violence and empathy.

In our current era of school mass shootings and bullying, the play’s themes can take on a deeper meaning.  We speak with the production’s director Kody Jones, who is also the Florida Rep’s Education Director. We’ll also explore the Florida Rep’s Theatre Conservatory Program, summer camp offerings, and classes for youth and adults alike.  We’ll also sit down with long-time Florida Rep actor and director Jason Parrish for a preview of what theatregoers can look forward to in the Florida Rep’s 2018-2019 season.
