Hillary Clinton Supporters Watch Returns in Fort Myers

A thin margin separates the presidential candidates nationally, but here in Southwest Florida, Hillary Clinton supporters anticipating an early win in the sunshine state say they’re now preparing for a long night.

At the Harborside Convention Center in Fort Myers, you can almost feel the crowd hold its breath as a massive screen displays the latest numbers for Florida and the nation: a presidential race that’s too close to call.

Clinton supporters said they’re not discouraged. Gary Formaro belongs to the national association of letter carriers. He said Trump doesn’t stand for values he wants in a candidate.

“She’s more in line with the needs we feel are for working families, working people, and taking care of the elderly,” said Formaro.

Gerri Ware said she’s worked hard in Clinton’s campaign in Southwest Florida, and fears she and other supporters are in for a long night.

“Florida is not going to come through til the wee hours of the morning,” said Ware. “We do it all the time. We always got to wait.”

As results roll in, watchers are hoping more returns in Florida give them room to breathe.
