At Puerto Rico’s request, Florida Governor Rick Scott will travel to the devastated island Friday to offer advice about how to speed up efforts to restore the island’s power.
It’s been more than a month since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, still about 70 percent of the island’s power has yet to be restored. Having dealt with Hurricanes hitting Florida, Governor Rick Scott says he as well as Florida utility companies will be lending their expertise to the Puerto Rican government.
“We have been talking to them about how to do their energy restoration as quickly as possible,” said Scott. “As you know, in our state, we have some wonderful utilities, and we were able to do our restoration very quickly. Of course, every hour you’re out, it’s not quick enough for anybody. But, as you know, they’re still fighting to get the restoration done. So, I’m going to do everything I can, takes resources, do whatever I can to be helpful to them.”
Scott says Florida has also offered other assistance, including education, transportation, and relief services. Scott’s trip comes at the request of Puerto Rico’s Governor, in a letter. SOC
