Although the official start of the summer season is still days away, the tale-tell sweltering heat of another sub-tropical Southwest Florida summer is now upon us.  For decades, News-Press storyteller Amy Bennett Williams has been collecting an arsenal of methods for beating the heat that lean heavily on creative hydration recipes.

In this week’s essay, she shares a recent discovery that she’s anxious to put into effect in to quell the hot humid months to come and that’s easy to make with items found in just about any herb garden.

Madeline's Herb-Infused Water Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 Gallon of water

5-6 sprigs of fresh herbs

Snip the herbs and lightly crush the leaves to release their fragance.  Place in a pitcher and pour the water over them.  Let steep for 1 hour or more for maximum flavor.

Serve cold.
