The man who discovered the Titanic almost three decades ago is shedding light on a different part of history: the biblical flood in the story of Noah’s Ark.
Kicking off the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speaker Series, Robert Ballard told the audience that he has seen proof that a massive flood wiped away a civilization thousands of years ago.
Stories similar to Noah’s Ark-- mostly involving a large flood—have been told by many cultures all over the world. Ballard says there is evidence in the Black Sea that shows all these stories might be true.
While this is a big discovery, this would be only one of Ballard’s big discoveries. That’s because he is most famous for discovering the Titanic in 1985.
He said during a Q&A with the audience that he is disappointed people are now taking artifacts from the sunken ship.
“There was no one that had an association with the Titanic that wanted artifacts,” Ballard said. “We could have easily picked up artifacts -- piece of cake -- but we chose to leave it as it is and I am very proud that we did that.”
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the collection of pieces of the Titanic, which are largely used for private exhibitions, he added.
