Nineteen Demonstrations Planned In Naples Saturday

Collier Freedom
A map of the 19 demonstration locations.

On Saturday, demonstrations and protests are being planned in places throughout the country.

Collier Freedom, a grass roots organization that says it wants to have a more inclusive community, said there will be 19 street corners in Naples where people can gather to peacefully hold signs and chant about issues that matter to them.

Collier Freedom is calling it Day of Action/Day of Issues.

For those passionate about LGBT rights, there's the corner of Airport Pulling Road and Golden Gate Parkway. If people are more concerned with immigration reform, they can demonstrate on Airport Pulling Road and U.S. 41.

Several mostly progressive-leaning organizations will be involved, including local Democratic clubs, the NAACP, PFLAG and Showing Up for Racial Justice

Collier Freedom’s KC Schulberg said it’s a non-partisan event.

“We’re trying to bridge the divide," Schulberg said. "We’re trying to show people it’s a welcoming town, and some of these issues we can come together on.”

There will be corners where people can demonstrate about medical marijuana, healthcare reform and more.

The day will culminate with a rally at Cambier Park in downtown Naples.
