Same-Sex Marriage in Florida

The issue of same-sex marriage in Florida has been thrust back into the headlines with last week’s lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court challenging the state’s ban on gay marriage. In 2008, about 62% of voters approved a constitutional amendment proposal which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Is this lawsuit a positive step toward achieving marriage equality or is it an attempt to circumvent the rule of law and the voices of Southwest Florida voters? What implications could this lawsuit have on the national level? Join our conversation with representatives from Equality Florida, the Florida Family Policy Council, the National Organization for Marriage, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights.
