Scott Bows Out of RNC as Convention Loses a Day

It happened in quick succession last night, right after hurricane forecasters suggested Isaac could make landfall in the Panhandle as a Category Two hurricane. Governor Rick Scott was in Plantation, giving an update at the Broward County Emergency operations center. He told reporters,

"I'm going to withdraw from all of my rnc activities on my Monday. I was honored to have the opportunity to give a speech at the convention but I'm going to cancel my speech, cancel all of my rnc activities on Monday."

Scott was supposed to speak Monday night at the convention in Tampa. But minutes later, Republican leaders announced that the convention would open on Monday, recess immediately, and then reconvene Tuesday afternoon - all because of the weather. It isn't clear how the Republicans made their decision. Governor Scott told reporters his job was just to give them storm information not advice.

"They'll make a logical decision, I believe", said Scott.

The governor said he updated soon-to-be Republican nominee Mitt Romney on Tropical Storm Isaac developments and he said the state is "as prepared as you can be" for whatever happens.
