Southwest Floridians Prepare for Isaac

Amy Tardif

People in southwest Florida should start feeling hurricane force winds and rain Sunday morning. People on barrier islands may face evacuations as a 5 to 7 foot storm surge is predicted. Shelters will open around Naples Sunday.

The propane tank line is constant at the local RV resort where Marc Lang is at the front. He says he’s been through the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 and doesn’t plan to go anywhere or even board up his house but is playing it safe by filling up his propane tank.

“For a backup in case the hurricane comes through then everything blows away. It’s for boiling water in case we need to or cooking food and we got a lot of soup cans now.”

Schools across the region are closed Monday but few buildings are boarded up. Florida Power and Light has 7700 field workers on standby.
