While a lot of the focus has been on Puerto Rico, another U.S. territory was affected too by Hurricane Maria. And, the city of Tallahassee is sending crews to help the U.S. Virgin Islands.
A team of 11 people from the Tallahassee Electric Utility left Tuesday to help St. Croix, the largest of the surrounding islands that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands.
St. Croix currently has the most customers without power. According to Tallahassee officials, the crews are expected to be on that island for awhile—which includes through the Thanksgiving holiday.
They’ll be joined by electric crews from Ocala, Fort Pierce, and Homestead.
According to the U.S. Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, roughly between 17 and 45 percent of customers have had their power restored.
