Tallahassee Representative Leaves Democratic Party

Tallahassee Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda has changed her registration from Democrat to NPA, or no party affiliation. Rehwinkel Vasilinda, who is not seeking another term in the House since she’s reached the maximum allowed, says her decision to leave the Democratic Party stems from frustration with the current presidential election.

“I just think that things have gotten way out of hand and I’ve kind of started calling it the pre-sullying of the American Presidency. Both sides have kind of put the presidency in some kind of an undermined condition so that no matter who wins on November 9, we have a long way to claw back to to have dignity in the American presidency and to have it be effective,” Rehwinkel Vasilinda says.

Rehwinkel Vasilinda says she hopes as more people register with no party affiliation, the move will send a message to the country’s major parties that they’re not reflecting what people want. The representative says she had been Democrat for 38 years.
