Three Palm Beach Men Charged With Conspiracy With ISIS

The U.S. Attorney's Office made public the criminal complaint against the three men.
The U.S. Attorney's Office made public the criminal complaint against the three men.

Three men living in Palm Beach County have been charged with conspiracy and attempts to provide material support to the Islamic State (ISIS), according to a complaint filed in federal court on Friday.

Two of the men were arrested at the Miami International Airport Thursday as one of them was on his way to Germany, with plans to continue to Syria, according to a complaint circulated by the U.S. Attorney's office.

Court documents also indicate that Gregory Hubbard, 52 years old and a resident of West Palm Beach, had already booked a Berlin hotel and bought aroundtripplane ticket to avoid suspicion. He planned to travel to Syria, according to the complaint, along with a confidential informant for the FBI.

Hubbard and two other men,Dayne Antani Christian, 31 years old, and Darren Arness Jackson, 50 years old, used code words like “soccer team” to describe ISIS and spoke approvingly of terrorist attacks and mass shootings like the Pulse nightclub massacre and the recent truck attack in France, according to the complaint. They allegedly spoke about plans to kill civilians by attacking so-called soft targets here in the US.

Court documents show that a confidential informant tracked two of the men for than a year, taking note of the Islamist sermons they exchanged in text messages and listened to in the car. Two of the defendants and the informant brought guns to a South Florida wildlife area and used them for target practice, the complaint alleges.  The three men are expected to appear in court for a detention hearing next week.
