Tropical Development Likely, Florida Impact Possible with Invest 96

The broad area of low pressure, referred to as Invest 96, became a little better organized Wednesday afternoon as it continued to drift west toward the Winward Islands. Confidence has increased that tropical cyclone formation will occur, especially by Friday or Saturday when the wave moves into the northeastern Caribbean. Long range forecast data is also in relatively good agreement that the developing system could impact the islands of Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Cuba over the weekend. And at this stage in the waiting game, a potential impact to Florida can not be ruled out early next week. Stay tuned to your local Florida Public Radio station for continuing updates from the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network.
