U.S. Army Corps Closes Campgrounds and Recreation Areas Along Okeechobee Waterway

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close all of its campgrounds and parks along the Okeechobee Waterway tomorrow (10/9/13) at 12:00pm.  It says it can no longer sustain support to recreation areas during the shutdown.

Customers on site prior to the closure will be required to leave. A press release says they’ll get a partial refund for any unused portion of their reservations.
The Ortona South Campground near Moore Haven and the W.P. Franklin Campground North in Alva will be closed.

The Clewiston Visitor Center, W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area in Alva, and the Ortona North Recreation Area in Moore Haven will be closed.

Only staff essential to public health and safety will continue to work.
