Bill To Allow Liquor Behind Store Counters Passes

Mar 23, 2017

A bill to allow stores to sell alcohol behind a counter instead of in a separate building moved forward Wednesday.

Florida Keys Brewing Company fans, don't fret. You can still order the local brewer's popular Hogfish Amber. But because of threatened legal action by a well-known Delaware brewer, ask for a Spearfish Amber instead.

Local owners Craig and Cheryl McBay said they received an email late last year from the owners of Dogfish Head Brewery that threatened legal action if the name of the Keys Brewing beer wasn't changed.

A contentious plan to let grocery stores sell liquor is still alive in the Florida statehouse. But some are dismissing the issue as insider baseball, and not a real public priority.

A Senate panel is giving the thumbs up to a measure establishing state-wide regulations for ride hailing services like Uber and Lyft.

A bill moving through the Florida House would preempt local governments from passing ordinances pertaining specifically to vacation rentals. Rep. Mike La Rosa (R-St. Cloud) says local governments are passing rules so stringent some people may be forced to stop renting their homes.
