Elections

Supervisors of elections throughout Florida are preparing for the upcoming election season, with the secruity of the voting process being a top priority.

Three candidates are in the running to fill the position vacated by State Rep. Alex Miller, a Sarasota Republican, who unexpectedly submitted her resignation from House District 72 last August. Gov. Rick Scott announced there will be a special election to replace Miller on Tuesday.

State officials this month levied a $110,000 fine against the Republican Party of Florida. The party turned in a campaign finance report dealing with a South Florida House race 11 days late.

A member of the state Constitution Revision Commission wants to open up Florida’s primary elections, at least somewhat. The proposal would close the state’s loophole for write-in candidates.
