The Mosaic Company has announced it will temporarily close its Plant City phosphate processing plant at the end of the year. That comes despite the company reporting increased profits.

In late June, five workers at TECO's Big Bend power station in Apollo Beach were gravely injured in an accident.

Two died that day, three others later succumbed to their injuries.  Another worker was left seriously burned. 

Last week  South Miami became the first city in Florida to mandate that all new homes, townhomes, condo and apartment buildings have rooftop solar panels. 

The measure also requires current homeowners who chose to enlarge their homes by 75 percent or more or replace at least three-quarters of them  to add solar panels. 

The new rule takes effect on Sept. 18.   

Over the last two decades, more workers have died at Tampa Electric’s power plants than at those run by any other Florida utility.

Northeast Florida Republican Congressman John Rutherford is helping lead a bipartisan effort against seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic Ocean, which could lead to drilling for oil and gas.

Rutherford said the blasting could hurt coastal businesses relying on healthy oceans.
