  • Lee County is working with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Office of Broadband to pinpoint areas where internet connection can be strengthened.Residents and businesses are encouraged to take a broadband survey and internet speed test so data can be collected to evaluate broadband capabilities and identify areas lacking service. The goal is to have high-speed internet accessible throughout all of Lee County.
  • State health officials reported 3,184 new COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths, Wednesday. As of Wednesday morning, nearly 9.4 million people in Florida have been vaccinated including more than 7.2 million people who have completed a two-dose series or taken the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.Florida officials plan to reinstate a requirement that those receiving state unemployment benefits must show that they’re looking for work and applying for jobs.The Florida Division of Emergency Management this week announced plans to close state-run COVID-19 testing sites throughout the state.The number of people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is going down in Florida, but new admissions are still higher than in most parts of the country, especially for younger and middle-aged adults.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the CDC have now approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for 12 to 15-year-old children.Collier and Manatee County School District officials are looking to make mask wearing optional for summer school and for the new school year that begins this fall.
  • State Health officials reported 2,521 new COVID-19 cases Sunday bringing Florida's total to 683,754 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported nine new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 20, bringing the statewide death toll to 13,459 fatalities.Of the 5,102,203 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate stands at 13.4%. The latest single day positivity rate stands at 4.62%.
  • State health officials reported 2,402 new cases of COVID-19, Wednesday, increasing the statewide total to 633,442 cases. The Florida Department of Health reported 127 new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 2, bringing the statewide death toll to 11,651 fatalities.Of the 4,681,135 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate continues trending downward to its current rate of 13.40%.

The Florida Department of Health also reported 153 new coronavirus related deaths, Aug. 26, bringing the statewide death toll to 10,872 fatalities.Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day health officials reported fewer than 4,000 new cases of the virus in a day. The last time reported new cases were that low was June 16-19.
  • State health officials reported another 12,478 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Sunday, increasing the statewide total to 350,047 cases.The Florida Department of Health also reported 87 new coronavirus-related deaths, July 19, bringing the statewide death toll to 4,982 fatalities.Sunday marked the fifth consecutive day of daily increases of at least 10,000 cases and the 26th consecutive day of at least 5,000 cases reported in a single day.
  • State health officials, Thursday, reported the largest single-day increase in cases of the coronavirus in Florida since the pandemic began. The 1,698 new cases reported yesterday brings the statewide total to 69,069 confirmed cases.With the exception of this past Monday, the single-day increase in COVID-19 cases in Florida has topped 1,000 every day since June 3.
