Fort Myers Film Festival

  • The 13th annual Fort Myers Film Festival includes a screening of the short documentary “Warriors: The BERNIE MAC Disease,” about the famed comedian’s decades-long struggle with sarcoidosis. The film aims to raise awareness about the often-misdiagnosed disease. It was produced by Fort Myers resident Steve Hilfiker, whose own battle with cardiac sarcoidosis required a heart transplant.
  • The Fort Myers Film Festival returns for it’s 13th year May 17-21 and will include screenings of 79 international and independent films in five categories as well as a red-carpet gala, Q&As with filmmakers, a cosplay competition and a closing-night award ceremony. We’ll get a preview with film festival founder Eric Raddatz. We’ll also hear from director Sasha Levinson whose short film “Yachts on the Rocks” will have its world premiere at the festival, and Steve Hilficker who produced the short film “Warriors: The Bernie Mac Disease,” which will be featured.
  • This week the Fort Myers Film Festival will screen three environmental documentary selections from award-winning filmmaker and conservation and science communicator Sonny DePasquale. We’ll explore these documentaries with the filmmaker.
  • We get a preview of the 12th annual Fort Myers Film Festival, which runs May 18-22. The festival includes screenings of more than 70 films in seven categories and includes submissions from all over the world as well as films about and shot here in Southwest Florida. We’ll talk with the festival’s founder Eric Raddatz.
  • According to recent Census data, 34% of Southwest Florida’s population or some 463,000 of our residents are 60 years of age or older. Well, there’s a group of volunteer senior dancers who want you to know that age is just a number. The Calendar Girls are the subject of a new documentary that will be featured in May by the Fort Myers Film Festival, with a sneak preview April 22 at the Edison Ford Winter Estates.
  • Now that this year’s Academy Award nominations are out, last year’s best films are attracting a lot of attention. Half were made in legendary filmmaking cities like L.A., New York, Boston and London. The rest were shot in nontraditional locations such as Norway, New Zealand, Hiroshima and Buffalo. Now, there’s an intrepid group of filmmakers here in Southwest Florida that are bound and determined to add Naples, Florida to the list of places where great films are made.
  • The 10th annual Fort Myers Film Festival will run from Oct. 21 – 25. Nearly 70 films will be screened in categories including Features, Documentaries, Shorts, Short shorts, Strictly Local, Student and Environment.As in past years, this year’s film festival will include celebrations, VIP meet and greet opportunities, filmmaker discussions and film screenings at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers. There will also be virtual activities this year and a mind toward safety and social distancing amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.We’ll get a preview from Fort Myers Film Festival Founder Eric Raddatz.
