RNC Protestors Expected to Arrive in Waves

As many as five thousand protestors are expected to descend on Tampa for the convention next week. The Coalition to March on the RNC held a press conference today to talk about their planned march for Monday. Eric Mennel reports from Tampa.

RNC 2012: Rooms and Housing Still Available

Usually finding a place to stay is at a premium for a political convention - but a report earlier this week found hotel rooms were still available on St. Pete Beach and several dozen homes were still listed for rent at the website:

They call themselves the Coalition to March on the RNC. They plan a parade of thousands Monday, ending up at the public viewing area within earshot of the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

One of the protest organizers is Mick Kelly of Minnesota. He helped organized the 2008 RNC Protest in St. Paul, which was marred by violence between police and handfuls of anarchists. 

An Inside Look at the RNC Command Center

Very soon, a few hundred officials from dozens of agencies will be sitting in a large room. Their job will be to keep a watchful eye on just about everything going on around downtown Tampa and the Republican National Convention.

The Secret Service doesn't want the location of the Multi-Agency Communications Center, or MACC, to get out. However, they briefly lifted the curtain back on a site that, once it goes active, will be home for representatives of around 60 groups until all Convention related activities are done. John Joyce leads the Secret Service’s Tampa office.

Scott Activates Emergency Response

As Tropical Storm Isaac pushes to the Northwest, apprehension is growing in the Tampa Bay region, which happens to be hosting about 50 thousand people for the Republican National Convention.

Today Governor Scott activated the Florida Division of Emergency Management in anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac.

"Put aside the RNC Convention for a moment. Florida has a lot of experience dealing with hurricanes. We're gonna be prepared for Isaac in the event it does impact our state and in the event it does become a hurricane."
