Zika Cases Top 900 In Florida

The number of cases of the ZIka virus in Florida has topped 900, with an additional 10 reported Tuesday, according to updated information posted on the Florida Department of Health website.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is using his emergency powers to direct $25 million in state money toward helping to develop a Zika virus vaccine.

Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood may be celebrating this week’s lifting of the suspected Zika transmission map, but Dr. Tom Frieden of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging people in Miami-Dade County not to let their guards down.

Four More Zika Cases Reported In Miami-Dade

The State Department of Health reported Tuesday that Florida has four new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus in Miami-Dade County. 

President Barack Obama is proclaiming it’s “Prescription Opioid and Heroin-Epidemic Awareness Week.”

As more people become addicted, he’s also asking Congress to pass $1.1 billion in new treatment funding.

But getting connected to treatment can be as difficult for struggling addicts as deciding to seek help in the first place.
