The ACLU of Florida has wrapped up a months-long investigation into how the state handled last year’s toxic algal blooms; the result of discharges from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers. The nonprofit civil liberties organization alleges the state failed its residents in how it responded to those discharges.

John Morgan Threatens To Sue Legislature

John Morgan said he is prepared to sue the Florida Legislature over the House’s plan to implement medical marijuana.


The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that the city of Miami can sue some of the nation’s largest financial institutions over allegations that predatory lending practices in minority communities violated the Fair Housing Act and contributed to a real estate meltdown that nearly bankrupted the city.

School shootings have opened up a new legal frontier: negligence lawsuits. Florida State University may soon face one over the 2014 shooting which left one man a parapalegic. But such lawsuits are tricky, and the spate of shootings has families reconsidering whether campuses are safe for their kids.

Fewer felons are getting their voting rights restored under Governor Rick Scott than in the past two administrations. Attorney Brittnie Baker said Scott has denied her clients the right to once again vote because of traffic violations or admitting they drank or used drugs.
