As school starts this week in Duval County, more than 30 teachers are finding themselves reassigned to new jobs at the last minute — state’s orders.


The School Boards in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties have voted to authorize legal action to challenge a controversial new education bill.

Seminole County is rolling out an app that acts as a panic button for school employees in an emergency.

With a tap of the app, an alert can be sent simultaneously to 911 and school employees. Maps of schools can be loaded into the app that sync with GPS allowing first responders to pinpoint where the call came from.

A new Florida law has captured headlines across the country. It allows any resident of a Florida county to challenge the classroom materials used in that county’s public schools, regardless of whether they are the parent or guardian of a student. The bill was drafted by Naples’ Rep. Byron Donalds, who joins Gulf Coast to talk about why he feels the new law is necessary.
