Our book reviewer Linda Fasulo brings us to Depression-era Ybor City Florida with author and educator William Durbin’s EL Lector. It’s the story of a young girl who dreams of becoming el lector like her grandfather – who reads to the Spanish speaking cigar factory workers.
Durbin is the recipient of the Great Lakes Book Award for Children’s Books and the Minnesota Book Award for Young Adult Fiction. He is the author of several books for young readers, as well as biographies of both Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer. EL Lector has been optioned for a movie.
