Today our book reviewer Linda Fasulo looks at an emotionally moving, frequently humorous and truly enlightening memoire by acclaimed poet Richard Blanco who, in 2013, was named as the fifth Inaugural Poet of the United States. Blanco’s prizewinning books include, “City of a Hundred Fires,” “Directions to the Beach of the Dead,” and “An Inaugural Poet’s Journey.” In this memoire, Blanco explores the experiences of Cuban families who escaped the Castro regime and his own childhood struggles juggling his Cuban and American identities.
