AARP Florida Says Utility Should Pay For Drilling Project Not Customers

The AARP is joining a lawsuit against Florida, Power, and Light’s plan to invest in a drilling project in Oklahoma.

Dave Bruns, spokesman for AARP Florida, says the organization doesn’t oppose fracking. But has some concerns. He says the opposition comes from the experimental nature of the drilling.

“We don’t know if this drilling plan is going to result in lower fuel costs, higher fuel costs, or the same fuel costs,” he says. “There’s no real way to know whether or not this is going to work.”

Bruns says FPL, not rate payers, should take on the burden of that risk.
