Senator Bill Galvano (R-Bradenton) wants to get rid of abandoned citrus groves, which he says can contribute to the spread of citrus greening.
Galvano amended a larger agriculture bill Monday to include a provision that would create a cost sharing program for destroying abandoned groves. He says research shows removing groves that have been overtaken by greening is an important part of limiting the spread of the disease. Galvano is working with Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Bill Montford.
