Florida lawmakers finalizing the state budget have are dealing with a new formula for the federal Low Income Pool funding model that helps hospitals cover costs for treating the uninsured.
It includes a $400-million reduction in funds this year, and no guarantee on the rate of return on local dollars that contributing hospitals will get, the Florida Times-Unionreports.
While state lawmakers have resolved their formula, questions remain about how local dollars needed to fund charity care at hospitals will actually come from, according to the Times-Union.
