Born in Tallahassee and raised in Tampa, Vanessa LaFaye moved to Europe during her senior year of college, settling in the UK. Thirty years later, in 2010, during a visit to family in Florida, she read an article in the local newspaper that was the catalyst for this powerful debut novel about the Florida Keys and the great hurricane of 1935.
