It’s been 36 years since a ship hit the Sunshine Skyway Bridge spanning Tampa Bay, causing it to break in pieces, killing 35 people. St. Petersburg native Bill DeYoung has been a writer and editor at various Florida newspapers for three decades. He was instrumental in encouraging the Florida legislature to approve a memorial for the victims of the disaster. He vividly describes it in his first book, “Skyway”, which is reviewed today by Sally Bissell.
