Governor Rick Scott is touting a measure creating a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee with local lawmakers. Senate president Joe Negron says the army corps of engineers is on board with the plan.
“They will be working with us to complete that in a timely way so that one day in the not too distant future when the lake gets to 15.5 or 16 feet, the army corps of engineers has some where to send the water”, Negron said.
Negron was the chief backer of the proposal in this year’s legislative session. He and other supporters believe a reservoir will reduce the likelihood of toxic discharges from the lake.
