One Person Dead, One Injured After Plane Crashes into Chico's Daycare

A small plane crashed into a building at Chico's headquarters

UPDATE: 11: 30 AM Monday

The Lee County Building Industry Association has issued a statement to members identifying the pilot of Saturday morning’s plane crash as Cape Coral resident and vice president of ACRA Electric, Anthony Greco.  “Anthony is in the hospital and his passenger passed in the accident.  Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers,” reads the statement.

The National Transportation and Safety Board continues to investigate what caused the plane to crash.

Chico’s spokeswoman Jessica Wells issued a written statement this morning:

“On behalf of all of us at Chico's, our hearts go out to those affected by this tragic event. Chico's headquarters on Metro is open today; however, the childcare center is closed. We understand the difficulty this may present for families so Chico's associates who have children at the center may stay home with their children and/or work remotely at this time.”

Undersheriff Marceno with the Lee County Sheriff's Office reports:

At 7:50 AM this morning, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a plane crash at Chicos headquarters, 11215 Metro Parkway, Fort Myers, Florida.  Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed a plane did in fact crash into a building at this location.
There was one confirmed fatality and one subject was transported to a local hospital. Several agencies are involved in the investigation and providing assistance, to include Lee County Port Authority, NTSB, FAA, Fort Myers Police Department, and South Trail Fire Department.  There were no injuries on the ground at Chicos headquarters.  The scene will be active for an undetermined amount of time and the investigation is ongoing.

One person was killed and another injured in a small plane crash Saturday morning on Metro Parkway, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s office.

Shortly after taking off from Page Field in Fort Myers- a Piper PA Cherokee aircraft crashed into the daycare area of the Chico’s World Headquarters Campus, known as building 9. ABC-7 is reporting that there were two people on that plane.

One person was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown.A Lee County Port Authority spokesperson was quoted as saying that the daycare was vacant at the time of the crash Saturday morning so no one on the ground was hurt. However there is significant damage to the building.

It’s unknown at this time what caused the crash.
