Last week South Miami became the first city in Florida to mandate that all new homes, townhomes, condo and apartment buildings have rooftop solar panels.
The measure also requires current homeowners who chose to enlarge their homes by 75 percent or more or replace at least three-quarters of them to add solar panels.
The new rule takes effect on Sept. 18.
South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard has long-championed the measure and stopped by The Florida Roundup to speak with WLRN's Tom Hudson to discuss the decision.
